INTRO:TransAfrica Adventures 2010 + 2011

WELCOME to Mkhombe Overland; chronicling the travels and travails of Glen, Clare and White Rhino, our '96 Land Rover Defender 110, in the Up-West-Coast-Down-East circumnavigation of Africa.

The story so far:

2010
March: marry twice, just to be sure, once at home in the UK and once on Koh Phi Phi Thailand
March - April: India by train and Ambassador taxi from Kolkata to Mumbai
April - May: join 3 week organized group tour on board Africa in Focus overland truck to cover off South Africa, Namibia, Botswana and Zambia.
May: spontaneously decide to buy Land Rover in Johannesburg and drive back to the UK via the arduous West Coast route
June - November: SA, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Namibia, then a sharp right turn into Angola for the long haul north to the UK, covering off 22 countries and 26,000 kilometres.
December: revel in hot water-on-tap, re-engage with modern life, shake out suit, submit CV's.

2011
May: give up on stagnant job market, thank wife she is gainfully employed, throw caution and common sense to the wind, put faith in the Fates - i.e.: load Rhino onto container ship bound for Mombasa to complete TransAfrica, aiming on route covering off Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, possibly Burundi, Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia, Zimbabwe before a return to South Africa.
June: traveling solo this time, arrive in Nairobi, cross fingers Rhino safely sailing southwards to join me, begin to re-grow Crazy Muzungu beard, kill time building new blog.

Enjoy!

  1. Nice one !! Just sorry I am not with you, well....except for all the waiting around at customs and border crossings! You know, if they just did it my way, things would go a lot smoother!
